📚 Color Marking Tips
- Oxide Layer: MOPA colors are created by controlled oxidation. Pulse width controls oxide thickness, which determines the color you see.
- Focus is Critical: Slight focus drift will change the oxide layer and result in different colors. Maintain precise focus for consistent results.
- Cleaning: Clean the workpiece with degreaser before marking to remove oils and contaminants that interfere with oxide formation.
- Pass Consistency: Keep passes consistent in speed, power, and spacing. Varying these will create uneven color.
- Temperature Effects: The workpiece temperature affects oxidation. Allow cool-down time between multiple passes on the same area.
- Material Variation: Even within stainless steel grades, surface finish and composition variations can affect color slightly. Always test first.
- Speed Scaling: As wattage increases, speed scales proportionally. 100W at 800mm/s ≈ 50W at 400mm/s for similar results.
